When the Business Transformation Academy aggregated the health of 13 large-scale European business transformations, the results provided an eye opener for many leaders who would otherwise think they have all aspects of transformation management covered.
Only 4 of the 13 transformations were very successful and achieved all their main objectives. When considering that these organisations were large, with far more resources and expertise than many smaller companies, the odds of most organisations achieving successful transformation are not attractive.
Executives need to adopt a proven transformation management approach and highly capable transformation management expertise, if they are to stack the odds in their favour. No amount of operational experience can prepare a team to undertake a successful transformation, despite their industry-specific knowledge, because knowing how to run a business and knowing how to transform a business, require very different capabilities.
